A local salon like Boki’s Hair is more than just the hairstyles it offers, the treatments available, the products it uses. It’s about the people. The stylists who take the time to ask what shape or colour you’d prefer and really listen to your reply. They take part in rigorous and constant training to ensure they are the very best. They are passionate about hair and know the transforming effect of a great cut and blow dry. They know that it’s not just hair, it’s how you feel about your day, about your life, when you step out of the salon and into the street with an amazing new style (or even just a trim).
And, of course, the clients who come through our doors are the most important people. Having cut hair in Herne Hill for more than 20 years, we have seen some of those for all that time and have become friends. Naturally we’re equally delighted to meet new clients. Many live in the local areas of Herne Hill, Brixton, Tulse Hill, Camberwell, Dulwich, Tulse Hill and West Norwood. Others travel from all over London and we’re grateful for their loyalty. With all our clients, it’s hugely important for us to take time to find out a little of who they are because that impacts on the style they favour or the hair colour that shows their personality.
The people at Boki’s Hair also means Boki and Natasha. Having set up the salon back in 1995, Boki, and later Natasha, have become instantly recognisable faces both inside the hairdressers and in the wider Herne Hill community. They have been married for 22 years.
Originally from Bosnia, Boki arrived in England in 1992 with just 300 German Marks. He began his hairdressing apprenticeship the next year and has never looked back. He loves the creativity of life in the salon and making clients happy.
Natasha’s background is in beauty and perfume. She says of the Herne Hill village and surrounding area: ‘It’s a really close knit community. Everyone seems to know each other and is really friendly. I love meeting and greeting people as they arrive at the salon.’
